What is Alpha Kappa Psi?
Alpha Kappa Psi is an internationally recognized, Co-Ed Professional Business Fraternity. Our mission is to develop well-trained, ethical, skilled, resourceful, experienced business leaders. Not only is AKPsi a ‘professional’ fraternity, but ‘social’ fraternity aspects are included as well.
We are the oldest and largest professional business fraternity. AKPsi is recognized as a premier developer of principled business leaders. Many go on from college to become some of the world’s greatest minds in business. Sam Walton, Ronald Reagan, Steve Forbes and Lee Iacocca are some of the more famous AKPsi alumni who have gone on to shape our great nation.
AKPsi is guided by well-defined principles and values. They include building brotherhood, lifelong learning, high ethical standards, improving communities, and enhancing the fraternity for life. We form our foundation on these principles and values.
Why should I join?
Brotherhood – Throughout life's endeavors friends will be made to help in times of need. These lasting relationships can be made in Alpha Kappa Psi by creating a sense of brotherhood & unity.
Experience – Nothing helps a student to develop professionally like the experience gained by being an executive officer, committee chair, or even just an essential member of a professional business organization.
Professionalism – Improve vital professional skills such as project management, team-building, judicious leadership, and incisive decision making.
Networking – The old saying holds true to this day. "It's not WHAT you know, it's WHO you know!!" Just being a part of something as big as AKPsi allows you to have contacts all over the world. Many of NDSU's alumni are spread throughout the country allowing for initial contacts when starting your career in a new city.
Service – Sharing your time and talent with the campus, community and the fraternity are a major priority to maintaining AKPsi’s commitment to enhancing our society.
Social – What would a fraternity be without the socials? Our socials are designed to enhance our fraternal relationships. They are always fun and exciting!!!
There are many more aspects of which you can benefit from. The most important reasons to join AKPsi are; the leadership development opportunities, the increased attention to your resume by employers from seeing your involvement with AKPsi, and the always increasing network of people developed. No matter how you look at AKPsi, we are an ideal source of professional development on the campus of NDSU.
Who can join?
Prospective members may be any student at NDSU pursuing an undergraduate degree. Students with even an interest in working on their business & professional skills are encouraged to join. All majors are welcome, but only freshman & above with an established GPA are eligible to pledge. If you have any questions about whether you meet the requirements, please contact the VP of Membership or the President.
How can I become a member?
We hold informational meetings at the beginning of each semester that will help give prospective members a better idea of what we are about. If we peak your interest & you would like to become a part of AKPsi, you will go through the normal pledge process. This would be discussed in more detail at the informational meetings.
Will I be hazed?
Alpha Kappa Psi upholds a strict national policy against all forms of hazing.
What will it cost me?
Dues are currently set by the Board of Directors at the national level. They are $39 to pledge and $60 once you become a member. After that member dues are $65 in the fall and $45 in the spring. We do not currently charge anything on top of the requirements for the national level. We are fully funded by corporate sponsorships, donations and fundraisers.
What are the time commitments?
Chapter meetings are usually held every other Tuesday night at 6 p.m. for approximately 1-2 hours. We also spend time volunteering, raising money, and developing new professional events for the students of the business college. Most students are quite busy working & wanting to enjoy the little time they have in college, but we hope you will want to give some of your time to help develop our fraternity into the premier organization on campus.
What do you do as a fraternity?
We are comprised of four main elements. These include professional, social, philanthropic, and fundraising events throughout the year. We have a chapter retreat in the spring, fundraise approximately once every month, attend a national conference in Chicago during February, improve our campus and community through service projects, and host professional speakers and events throughout the year. There are many more things we do, but you’d have to drop by our informational meetings or contact one of our members to find out more.
If I'm with another Fraternity/Sorority, can I still join?
Yes!! Definitely!! Since we are a professional fraternity, we do not compete with social fraternities or sororities. You may be with several organizations at NDSU, but we hope you are able to spend the majority of your time with us.
Why should I join AKPsi instead of other groups @ NDSU?
The professional development our members realize is some of the best offered at NDSU. Not only are we an organization of high academic achievement, we are one of great accomplishment. As with any organization we are constantly looking for new opportunities with which to better our campus, community, & fraternity. If you are looking to make a difference while developing your skills for your professional career, Alpha Kappa Psi is the perfect place for you.
